- The age of first births increased in 1970 of 19 percent of first births by women 25 and older to an increase in over 50 percent in 2000
- The average years of education for mothers has risen from 12.4 years in 1970 to 12.9 in the year 2000.
- 17.8 percent to 25 percent of mothers as of 2000 have 16 years or more of education.
- There is no significant effect on a women's wages after having a first child, but there are greater effects from the second child ( a 10-20 percent penalty in a women's income).
- Role of fertility timing does play a huge factor in enhanced earnings (with 6 percent higher wages).
